Primarily, zenz designs: buildings, spaces, objects, structures - architecture.
This is most typically from the first conceptual idea to the completed build specification and subsequent enactment - essentially the full basic architectural services. Beginning with Belgo, zenz has had an association with engineering company WSP Group PLC in these matters.
Zenz' role in the actual, physical building part of a project has spanned from the contract administrator (as part of the basic services) all the way across to the main building contractor on a number of the smaller projects. However, the predominant making work by zenz tends to be the production and installation of various zenz-designed elements, ranging from details and furniture across to staircases and complete building structures.
Whilst creatively complementary, zenz' primary role as architectural designer and zenz' parallel role as maker are functionally independent. Therefore each is contracted for separately in any project. Thus engagement for the role as designer does not necessarily insist upon an ensuing engagement as maker - although all clients so far have wanted both. Conversely however, zenz only produces that which has also been designed by zenz.
